Maine wildflowers

I took these photos last week in the White Mountains of western Maine. The weather was cool - low 50's at night - and the last few late summer wildflowers were blooming. Leaves here and there showed hints of fall color. An incredibly beautiful area.

Nice wildflowers! Here in northeastern Wisconsin, I go nuts this time of year for wildflowers...always pulling over at roadside to check something out. Walks in the woods are busy, too-especially with mushrooms, lichens, indian pipe, and lots of other cool stuff in the leaf litter. If you ever have trouble with a flower ID, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower web page has an expert, "Mr. Smartyplants", who will help. I've sent them several pictures, they always respond quickly with lots of info and links. (I love the "punny" name, too.)
